His doctoral dissertation, Castlereagh, Ireland and the French Restorations of 1814 to 1815, examines British foreign policy at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Dr. Jarrett also received a law degree with honors (Order of the Coif) from the Law School of the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall), where he was an editor of the school’s law review, and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Comparative Legal History and the Prosser Prize for Federal Courts. He has taught at Hofstra University in New York, the Mander, Portman and Woodward School in London, England, and in the New York City Public Schools, and served as a test writer for the New York State Board of Regents. He also practiced law for ten years in the San Francisco office of Baker & McKenzie, the world’s largest law firm. His work as an attorney included representation of BP in litigation with the State of Alaska over the calculation of gas royalties, and representation of UMAX, a Taiwan co-defendant of Apple Computer, in a complex antitrust case concerning Apple’s intellectual property rights.
